Production of web series is steadily gaining momentum in the country. Pakistan, although is yet to launch its own digital Netlflix like platform but it seems like creative minds of the industry cannot wait that long and have already started producing web content for international market. We at Pakistani Cinema few days ago updated you about all the announced web series projects from Pakistan for cross border forums. The latest addition to this growing stream of projects is a web series for Zee5 that stars Ahsan Khan and Ayeza Khan in titular roles.
The story of the series, according to Ahsan is set in a feudal background dealing in politics and conflicts a family has to face from within and outside mainly over property. While there are some heroic characters who would reach out to underprivileged people to help them, there are also some antagonists who would oppose them. The story is said to depict Pakistani rural culture.
About execution, Ahsan says that it will be quite similar to Pakistani TV shows, “Just because its a web series doesn’t mean we can’t make it into a proper drama with a plot and show our own culture with it. Its like our own TV plays which people internationally want to watch. People love our Pakistani dramas internationally and this is what they want to watch and a Pakistani drama style for our web series does well to highlight our format.”
Apart from Ahsan and Ayeza, the series will feature actors like Qavi Khan, Sohail Ahmed and Samiya Mumtaz and is expected to premiere in March. But in current scenario when some recents films like Total Dhamal were declined to release in Pakistan and after removing songs by Pakistani singers from their youtube channels, will projects like these be able to see day light? Only time will tell.
