Box Office: Extended Eid Ul Azha-Azaadi Weekend Generates Massive 34 Crores

The seven day Eid Ul Azha-Azaadi weekend generated the largest haul so far for Pakistani cinema this year. “Superstar”, “Parey Hut Love” and “Heer Maan Ja” all raked in massive numbers at the domestic box office. For what has been otherwise not an extraordinary year, this double dose of Eid and Azaadi fueled festivities was an adrenaline shot.

Heer Maan Ja

Emerging as the weakest of the three, Hareem Farooq’s “Heer Maan Ja” still generated 6.75 Cr at the box office. The screwball comedy starring Hareem Farooq, and Ali Rehman, pulled in audiences craving comedy. And while its plot of a girl running from her wedding is nothing new, the star power of the main leads managed to do its work.

Parey Hut Love

Asim Raza’s massive project starring Maya Ali and Sheheryar Munawar bore exquisite fruit at the box office. The trailer, anointed with beautiful sets, sparkling jewelry, glittering costumes, and powerful drama, made waves on social media. And so did the music by Azaan Sami Khan. The combination of grandeur and romance worked like magic and “Parey Hut Love” took in a little under 12 Cr.

Superstar

Mahira Khan’s “Superstar” emerged as the winner at the Eid box office. Due to strong word of mouth and the allure of a classic romance, it left the Pakistani audiences spellbound. Mahira Khan’s performance, Azaan Sami Khan’s screenplay, and the simplicity of the love story managed to grip the Pakistani audience like no other offering this holiday. Superstar’s domestic gross currently stands at 13.2 Cr.

There were also 2 Hollywood titles “Hobbs and Shaw” and “The Angry Birds 2” that grabbed decent shows during Eid holidays. The total business of all these Hollywood and local films during 7 day extended weekend aggregates around 34 crores.
