Netflix to Release Pakistani Animated Short Feature “Sitara: Let Girls Dream”

Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy has brought recognition to the country by giving quite a few firsts, every now and than. And just to add, her upcoming animated short film ”Sitara: Let Girls Dream” becomes first Pakistani animated film to be released and distributed by the biggest internet entertainment service, Netflix USA. Thus making it available to watch for audience from 190 countries worldwide. This for sure is a good step ahead in partnering between Pakistani film makers and the global powerhouse of entertainment.

Written and directed by Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, “Sitara” depicts journey of Pari, a fourteen year old girl who dreams of becoming a pilot. Her story, being told from perspective of her younger sister Mehr, depicts a culture where girls are still struggling to achieve their dreams.

Sharmeen who is writing and directing the project hopes that Sitara will lead to thoughtful discussions as they plan to begin screening the film in schools and community centers around the world.

Sitara‘s music has been composed by Grammy and Emmy award-winning composer Laura Karpman. Financed and produced by VICE studios, the film’s executive producers include women’s rights activist, Gloria Steinem and the Academy award winning producer of “Coco” and “Toy Story 3”, Darla Anderson.
