Overseas Box Office: 2019’s Highest Grossing Pakistani Films in Foreign Markets

While this was a less than ideal year for Pakistani films, there were still more than a few money spinners at the foreign box office. These are the 8 highest grossing Pakistani films at the foreign box office in 2019.

1) Parey Hut Love (7 Crores)

Asim Raza’s ode to love worked its magic at the domestic box office as well as the foreign box office. It raked in 7 Cr from the UK, North America, Australia and UAE markets. This, combined with its 24 Cr domestic total makes it the highest grossing domestic release of the year.

2) Superstar (6.5 Crores)

Mahira Khan and Bilal Ashrat starrer not only impressed audiences at home but abroad as well. This was Mahira’sfilm through and through and through it she proved to be the most bankable actress Pakistan has. Film lead in certain markets such as Australia and UK. Altogether with the domestic box office totals, “Superstar” is the second highest grossing Pakistani film of the year.

3) Sherdil (4 Crores approx)

A tribute to the Air Force, “Sherdil” was Mikaal Zulfiqar’s chance to shine. As far as the box office totals are concerned, he did. This film came out at a time when tensions were high between Pakistan and India and the audiences gravitated to this rivalry fueled flick. It made a total of 17 Cr together with its foreign totals of 4 crores.

4) The Donkey King ( 3.06 Crores*)

Aziz Jindani’s“The Donkey King” is the gift that keeps on giving. Though it was originally released in 2018, it has been circling a lot of foreign markets in 2019. Having been released this year in Turkey, South Korea, Spain, Russia, and the Ukraine, it has kept a steady pace. Its foreign totals now stand at 3.06 Cr, a third of which were made in Turkey alone. Its combined box office total now stands at over 28 Cr.

5) Wrong No. 2 (3 Crores)

The sequel to the successful “Wrong No.” proved to be as successful as the first. Along with the 21.55 Cr it made at the domestic box office, Wrong No. 2’s totals stand at over 24 Cr.

6) Baaji (2.97 Crores)

Meera’s comeback to the silver screen proved to be quite the success story. It made a lot of money at home as well as overseas, with many old fans flocking to cinemas. Its overseas and domestic totals now stand combined at 15 Cr.

7) Chhalawa (2.5 Crores)

Another female led film, “Chhalawa” banked on the commercial appeal of Mehwish Hayat and the comedy chops of director Wajahat Rauf. The second highest grossing film of Eid-Ul-Fitr 2019, Chhalawa’s overseas totals also reflected the audience’s interest in the genre. Its combined totals now stand at 20.5 Cr.

8) HeerMaan Ja (1.5 Crores)

“Heer Maan Ja” was not the biggest money spinner this year, but it did manage to make its presence felt. The potent pair of Hareem Farooq and Ali Rehman Khan managed to butt heads with “Superstar” and “Parey Hut Love” this Eid-Ul-Azha and come out swinging. Film’s combined box office total now stands above 12.5 Cr
