The release of ‘Javed Iqbal: The Untold Story Of The Serial Killer’ has been barred by the Punjab government. The decision was made just two days prior to the release of the film, despite the film being passed by all the censor boards in the country after minor changes.
In a notification issued to KK films, the production house behind the much-anticipated flick, it was notified that the film will be subjected to re-examination based on the persistent complaints received against its content.
This is not new for a film based on a controversial and taboo subject to face unforeseen circumstances before its release. Earlier, Sarmad Khoosat directorial ‘Zindagi Tamasha’ and Shoaib Mansoor’s ‘Verna’ had to face similar fate due to re-examination at the eleventh hour.
Responding to the decision, director Abu Aleeha maintained that the film is based on his book “Kukri” and four editions of this book are already out, if there is anything controversial why wasn’t the the book itself banned.
“Film was presented to the censor board after checking off all the legal requisites and was passed by the censor boards after minor deletions of some words. After a successful Karachi premiere of the film this decision of re- examining is beyond comprehension”, said Aleeha.
About their future course of action the director stated that they would go to High Court to challenge the “un lawful” decision.
