The three Pakistani Eid-ul-Azha releases, now in their third week, have steadied at the overseas box-office following bumper business during the festive holiday period. Over the third weekend, Six Sixgma/ARY Films’ Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 (JPNA2) continued to lead with significant margin. The Humayun Saeed-Fahad Mustafa starrer collected £24,000 (0.39cr) in UK taking its total to £361,000 (5.81cr). Whether the film overtakes the Armeena Khan-Bilal Ashraf starrer Janaan for the third highest Pakistani grosser in the UK will depend on how it trends in the forthcoming weeks. In the UAE it collected a decent DH107,650 (0.37cr) for a lifetime total of DH 1.34m (4.76cr). Its steady run continued in the North American market, where it grossed a decent $32,000 (0.40cr). The movie’s collections in the territory stand currently at $348,000 (4.35cr), and might cross the $400,000 mark. Across the Pacific in Australia, it seems to wrapping its run, with collections of A$1,835 (0.16cr) not adding much to the film’s lifetime tally of A$44,290 (0.39cr). The aggregate overseas box office gross for the movie is currently a very solid 15.31 crores.
M&D Productions’ Parwaaz Hai Junoon (PHJ) showed good legs in the North American market where it collected $30,280 (0.38cr) to bring its total to $296,500 (3.71cr). The Hamza Abbasi-Hania Amir air-force drama has good chances of crossing the $350,000 figure here, which will be a very good result. However, its run in the other territories is nearing the end. The movie collected £8,400 (0.13cr) in UK (total to date: £101,700 i.e. 1.64cr), DH11,940 (4 lacs) in UAE (total to date DH 573,000 i.e. 1.95cr) and A$ 2,000 (1.77 lacs) (total to date: A$34350 i.e. 0.30cr) in Australia, over the same period. The grand total from the overseas sector for the movie stands at a healthy 7.6 Crores.
After a less spectacular start, business for Filmwala’s Load Wedding is now tapering off in key overseas territories. The relatively modestly budgeted film has managed a decent domestic run though, and has also grossed some face-saving figures overseas despite stiff competition from two mega-films. In its third weekend it collected £2,300 (3.7 lacs) in the UK (lifetime total £79,400 i.e. 1.28cr) and $2,400 (0.3 lac) in USA (lifetime total $37,980 i.e. 0.48cr) for a total to-date business of 1.76 crores from all overseas markets.
Collectively, these three films will have grossed an aggregate revenue exceeding $2,000,000 by the end of their overseas run. This would be a significant benchmark for Pakistani cinema to have attained and signifies a thumbs up from the overseas audience to the entrepreneuring Pakistani film makers behind the three Eid releases.
