Looks like Pakistani cinema is adamant to take it’s share of sequels and franchises to a chunky level. This year we saw the most successful sequel in local cinema history in the form of JPNA2 and with that, seems like the filmmakers want to utilize the template of successful rom-coms in the year of 2019. After successful franchises like JPNA, NMA, 3 Bahadur and the moderately successful Karachi sey Lahore series, we will be witnessing another sequel hitting our screens next year. The film in question is Yasir Nawaz’s “Wrong Number”.
Earlier this week, it was revealed by an entertainment website that the 2015 hit is going to have a sequel to be released next year around Eid ul Fitr precisely speaking, it may fall somewhere around two weeks, post Eid Festival while the film is going on floor in the first week of November.
As far as the cast is concerned, here we have the news that Yasir Nawaz himself will be playing the lead in this sequel, which means that the story will be revolving around his character this time. There will also be room for a young lead pair in the film. Except the actor to play young male lead and the actress to play Yasir Nawaz’s wife in the film, pretty much all the major cast of the film has been finalized for “the comedy of Errors project”. The young female lead will be played by non other than the Pashtun beauty, Neelam Muneer and supporting her will be veterans like Nayyar Ejaz, Javed Sheikh and Mehmood Aslam.
The script for “Wrong No. 2” will is written by Saqib Sumeer, Danish Nawaz, Ahmed Hassan and Yasir Nawaz while the screenplay is written by Yasir Nawaz himself. We approached Saqib to know more about the film’s story, “As far as the story is concerned, its not going to be an extension of the prequel” said Saqib “Its entirely a different story with different characters (unlike JPNA or NMA series)”
This will be the first time YNH will be working with actor other than Danish Taimoor, whom Yasir casted in his first two directorial outings.
Looking at the record of Pakistani box office, rom-coms have always been a rage at box office window and filmmakers want to bank on to its full potential. YNH admits it and very rightly argues that the the local film industry isn’t ready to accept experimental projects at mass level, that’s why he had to delay his murder mystery film titled “Chakkar” for now in the favor of this sequel.
It would be interesting to see how Wrong No.2 fares at box office. Whether it follows the successful path of JPNA2 or meets another fate, will be witnessed in 2019.
