Trailer Review: Does Shamoon and Sami Khan’s “Gumm” Feature a Near Death Experience?

The teasers for upcoming independent film Gumm had us intrigued, mainly since they featured talented male leads in Shamoon Abbasi and Sami Khan, two underrated actors who we would definitely like to see more of. Also showcasing some violence and gore, that too in a picturesque but menacing setting, the film had us somewhat curious.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, the trailer for Gumm is out and while it gives out a few clues about the plot of the film, it by and large plays its cards close to the chest. We start with the romantic backstory, with the character portrayed by Sami Khan falling in love and then doing a clichéd song and dance routine with his female love interest. The trailer then cuts to a shot from the sequence that will possibly define the film’s narrative — i.e. the bank heist. Some cash is stolen, and our protagonist played by Sami Khan finds himself stranded in his getaway ride in the middle of the woods, apparently under the crosshairs of Shamoon Abbasi, who needs the cash for his daughter’s treatment. Needless to say, a cat and mouse chase ensues, with some punches pulled, bullets fired and the two leads getting bloodied and bruised. Interspersed with shots of Sami Khan in a hospital, we suspect that the movie’s plot centers around a near death experience, with the forested setting possibly symbolizing purgatory.

The production and cinematography in the action sequences looks sharp, and Sami Khan and Shamoon Abbasi leave a fairly strong impression duking it out over what are apparently wads of cash in the getaway car. Here’s hoping the movie turns out to be a good addition to the many well-made independent productions made over the last couple of years!
