‘Sawal 700 crore dollar ka’ is Jamshed Jan Mohammad’s debut film as writer and director. Jamshed Jan is the son of late veteran film director, Jan Mohammad. Jamshed made a sincere attempt to progress his family business in the film industry with this big budget project. The film was released in cinemas back in July, 2016 on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr along with the Salman Khan starrer “Sultan”. The latter proved to be a record breaker at the box office and hence gave a tough time to this local flick in the allocation of good number of shows and screens.
The cast of the film includes a number of industry veterans such as Javed Sheikh, Ismail Tara, Iftikhar Thakur, Ghulam Mohiuddin along with Shamoon Abbasi. The film launched debutantes Quratul Ain and Ghulam Mohiuddin’s son, Ali Mohiuddin as lead actors. The story of the film revolves around two thieves, Tiger and Rocky, played by Jawed Sheikh and Ali Mohiuddin, respectively. Both these thieves make a plan to rob a Maharaja’s palace in Bangkok to steal 7 billion dollars while a cop, played by Shamoon, is looking for Tiger.
The film contains all the ingredients for a masala flick, such as comedy, action, a robbery scheme, romance, songs, club numbers; everything that supposedly makes for a mass entertainer. But all of this couldn’t save the film from getting panned by critics. The gigantic cross border competitor, Sultan, was the final blow. The film had the advantage of the Eid release, overflow audiences from Sultan and the absence of any other local movie but it ultimately failed to end its run on a profitable note.
“Sawal 700 crore dollar ka” finally got its television premiere this Eid on TV One, after three years of its theatrical release and now the film has been made available for free online streaming on a YouTube channel, BVC Pakistan. If you’re looking to watch a fun flick this weekend, you can think of giving this one a watch, if for nothing else then to see how far we as a film industry have come in last three years.
