Here’s all the movies hitting theaters this July

Following the success of two Eid-ul-Fitr releases Wrong No. 2 and Chhalawa and Baaji’s good opening, the summer release season seems to be picking up momentum with a whopping four films scheduled for release in the remaining few weeks of the current month, July. These films offer something from every genre – be that rom-com, action-drama, thriller or masala and the encouraging sign is that quite a few of these are independent productions directed by promising new filmmakers. Now, let’s take a look at them.

Ready Steady …No!

First up for release on July 19 is the Lahore-based romantic comedy Ready Steady …No”! Starring Amna Ilyas and newcomer Faisal Saif in lead roles, Ready Steady …No! is directed by debutante filmmaker Hishaam Bin Munawwar and is a reality-based hilarious take on what happens to a couple madly in love, who decide to elope and get married, against the wishes of their parents. The movie also stars seasoned actors such as Ismail Tara and Salman Shahid in prominent roles, along with relative newcomers Zain Afzal and Marhoom Ahmad Bilal. Amna Ilyas is riding high on her performance in Baaji and the movie is said to be a hilarious, true to life comedy with a great soundtrack. While the film has taken a few years to make it to the silver screen, now that it’s slated for release it is definitely something to look out for!

Sirf Tum Hi Tou Ho

Releasing alongside Ready Steady …No! on July 19 will be Lollywood director Sangeeta’s romantic drama “Sirf Tum Hi Tou Ho” starring Danish Taimoor, Qurat-ul-Ain and Mathira in lead roles. The film was announced way back in September 2015, and has a trailer that has been making rounds over the internet for a few years. Danish has said in various interviews that the movie has a promising script and will make for a good cinematic viewing, regardless of how the viewers have received its trailer. Made in the vein of Lollywood potboilers of yore, the film boasts of 8 songs and will see Danish Taimoor romancing the heroine Qurat-ul-Ain (last seen in Sawaal 700 Crore Dollar Ka) and the vamp played by Mathira in various settings. Another highlight of the film is its item number Mai Ka Laal that is sure to grab your attention, although you are free to form your own judgment.

Tevar

The film was originally named Arifa and was supposed to be cinema debut of director Abu Aleeha, but Kataksha released before. This is another project which has been in the pipeline for a few years. It features Sukynah Khan, Taqi Ahmed, Mathira, Sharique Mehmood and Akbar Subhani in prominent roles, and is said to be a revenge thriller. The director’s last outing Kataksha received some mixed to positive reviews, and “Tevar” will be another interesting addition to the horror/thriller genre. The film releases on July 26.

RoundAbout

Last but not the least we have RoundAbout, starring regional cinema regulars Arbaaz Khan and Mahi Khan. Its trailer leads us to believe that the film belongs to the masala genre, for it features a healthy dose of action, thrills, romance and drama. The makers have tried to give the film a very mainstream look with decent photography and it also features some elaborately shot and choreographed song and dance sequences shot on some picturesque locations in the Northern Areas of the country. RoundAbout is scheduled for release this month.
