Celebrities who make it to the hearts of audiences through their work have an added responsibility of using their influence and reach to bring about positive change in the society. It’s for this reason that we see human rights organizations like UN and others engaging with celebrities, particularly from showbiz, for various human development campaigns.
That being a global phenomenon, here in Pakistan too we see celebrities performing social work, engaging with NGO’s and human rights platforms. Mahira Khan for instance recently collaborated with the UN for the Afghan refugee cause. And now news has it that the other biggie of the industry, the extremely vocal, Mehwish Hayat, has been appointed to be the goodwill ambassador for girl child in Pakistan. And in her first outing as ambassador, she recently attended an event marking Ministry of Human Rights’ new initiative for the girl child where she shared a panel with other distinguished women like Shireen Mazari and others.
Mehwish expressed her joy over this new venture, saying there is a long way to go. The “Punjab Nahi Jaungi” actor, in a recent social media post, expressed her desire to be proactive towards her work as ambassador.
We wish Mehwish more power for this huge responsibility she has taken on.
