Last weekend saw the release of two local films, “Durj” and “Kaaf Kangana” along with a Hollywood title “Countdown”. While “Countdown”, as expected, couldn’t bring any noticeable footfalls, the holdover Hollywood flicks, “Joker” and “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” kept attracting audiences. Lets have a look at the top three highest grossers of this weekend.
1- Maleficent: Mistress of Evil
Last weekend’s release “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” gave a tough time to this week’s new releases. The Angelina Jolie starrer dominated the Pakistani box office this weekend with 60 lacs. The film has so far raked up 2.1 crore pkr from Pakistan in 10 days.
2- Kaaf Kangana
Khalil Ur Rehman Qamar’s passion project “Kaaf Kangana” finally released this weekend without much marketing. Starring Sami Khan and Eshal Fayyaz in lead roles, the film raked in 19 lacs at the box office on Friday, which was followed by 20 lacs on Saturday and 19 lacs on Sunday. The cross border love story has collected 57 lacs over the weekend, which is close enough to this weekend’s haul of “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil”. Film has collected around 10 lacs on Monday, taking the four day total to tally at 67 lacs.
3- Durj
Shamoon Abbasi’s “Durj”, after all the hiccups in its release due to the censor board, finally made it to theatres this weekend across Pakistan. The film started off with 13 lacs on Friday and went on to earn 12 lacs and 10 lacs on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The film has minted 35 lacs over the first weekend.
While Hollywood flicks are helping keep the cinema business alive, performance by local films at box office remains dismal. All eyes are now on “Terminator: Dark Fate” to pump some oxygen into the movie business, this coming weekend.
