2020 seems to be very promising for the Pakistani film industry as a handsome number of films have been announced recently and some of them are either about to go or have already gone on floors. One of the films that is on sets in Lahore these days is Imran Ashraf and Amar Khan starrer “Dum Mastam”. We therefore got a hold of Amar herself to know about shooting schedules and get more details on her debut film project.
“We started the shoot on the 29th of November in Lahore. It’s a 30-day spell here and after a break of a week, we will have another 30-day schedule in Karachi. It’s all going non stop as we want to release the film next year.”
Amar is not just the lead actress of “Dum Mastam” but is one of the co-producers and has also written the script of the film. On being asked what inspired the “Belapur ki Dayan” star to write a film amid her acting career, she replied:
“It has always been there. I graduated in filmmaking from Beaconhouse National University (BNU), Lahore and I always wanted to be a filmmaker. It’s just that my career got a start with acting but I had to do this, sooner or later.”
Talking about the characters of the film, the “Dil-e-Gumshuda” actress told that the characters are very real, whom we get to see in our day to day lives. She further revealed, “The two protagonists of this film are from Lahore. It’s about the romance between two characters from the walled city and the series of happenings when they later move to Karachi. It’s a very intense story at its core but there is a lot of humor and naach gaana to provide the entertainment value that our cine-goers from Punjab crave for and have not been able to get lately.”
So has hailing from Lahore helped her write such characters? “My grandmother used to live in the walled city” responded “Dil-Gumshuda” star to the question, “so I have observed those living characters up close while growing up and I tried to put all my experience in use while developing these characters and writing the nitty-gritty of their lifestyle”.
“Dum Mastam” is produced under the banner of Cereal Entertainment, a production company owned by Adnan Siddiqui and Akhtar Husnain. The film is being directed by “Superstar” director Mohammed Ehteshammudin. Its music has been composed by Azaan Sami Khan and the background score will be done by Shani Arshad while Suleman Razzaq will serve as director of photography. We couldn’t help but ask how she managed to bring together such an ensemble team of in demand artists on her debut project. “Story..”, answered Khan with immense confidence, “I sent them my script and they all believed in this story. Their belief (in the script) has made it possible for us to get them all on board. Now let’s hope our audiences also find the story and its characters relatable”.
“Dum Mastam” is expected to release sometime in 2020.
