This certainly is not a very good time for movie theaters in Pakistan. While mass centers are being affected the most due to the absence of any major masala flicks, multiplexes are finding ways to survive with recently released Hollywood and local films. Let’s have a look at the box office performance of these recent releases.
Frozen II
Walt Disney’s animated feature maintained its domination at the Pakistani box office in its second week of release. After a mammoth opening, the film raked in 1.75 crores over the second week and now its grand total stands at 5.05 crores, BOD reported.
Betabiyan
“Betabiyan” was released in cinemas last Friday. The Babar Ali starrer, as per estimates by distributors, has pulled in 64 lacs in its first week of release. The film has got decent number of shows in second week due to no new release.
Talash
Local flick “Talash” continued its hold in its third week. Although the numbers are insignificant but film’s trending over the course of three weeks has been quite good. As per estimates by BOD, film has collected 12 lacs the last week, taking the cumulative aggregate to 85 lacs
In a month like December, which is globally considered as a good time for movie business due to the holiday period, there’s not a single new Hollywood or local film to release this weekend. Instead there is re-release of the Meera and Amna Ilyas starrer “Baaji” and Hareem Farooq and Ali Rehman starrer “Heer Maan Ja”. Cinepax Cinemas have also brought back “Kaaf Kangana”, “Parey Hut Love” and “Superstar”. Among these re-releases and holdovers, “Frozen II” is expected to lead again this week.
