Box Office: ‘Kamli’ Opens to a Good Start at Multiplexes

Sarmad Khoosat directed “Kamli” released in cinemas this Friday. The overwhelming reviews by all notable publications for this Saba Qamar, Sania Saeed and Nimra Bucha starrer, after the Karachi and Lahore premiere, ensured a good business for film over the opening weekend.

Film collected 32 lacs PKR on Friday. It than showed growth over the next two days as it collected 44 lacs PKR on Saturday and 42 lacs PKR on Sunday. Film has raked in 1.18 crores over the weekend.

The numbers of first weekend, though not extra-ordinary, are very good for a film like “Kamli” that is targeted at a niche audience. As expected the film couldn’t bring footfalls in single screens and mass centres, it has been running to houseful shows at multiplexes like CUE cinemas, Lahore where the shows for film have been increased from Monday onwards.

“Kamli” has also performed better than Sarmad Khoosat’s last film “Manto” which was released back in 2015, if we compare the opening weekend business of both films. “Manto” kept running in selective cinemas for long and locked its lifetime business around 5.5 crore PKR. “Kamli” too has generated a good word-of-mouth and critical acclaim and it has potential to keep running at multiplexes till Eid-ul-Azha.
