Saim Sadiq’s “Joyland” is minting good moolahs in overseas markets. After collecting more than $1 Million from France, film is now running successfully in theatres across US. The first ever shortlisted Pakistani film for Academy awards, “Joyland” finally released in Los Angeles on April 7 by Oscilloscope and then the theatres kept on adding to the list till the full scale release of film on May 27.
It collected $20,638 over first weekend and $9,194 over second weekend. On third weekend it saw a boost due to Eid-ul-Fitr as the collections rose to $38,310 from only 8 theatres (a growth of approximately 316%). After the full scale release on 33 locations, it collected $34,783 and $30,421 over fourth and fifth weekend, respectively.
On sixth weekend, film has experienced the first major drop of 60% as the collections came around $12,024. Film is now running across 25 theatres in its sixth week and has so far minted $209,128 (5.9 crore PKR) till May 14.
