Is marriage the only motto of girls in our society? Why do parents educate and empower their daughters when they eventually force them to take on susraal slavery? ARY Digital’s ‘Jaisay Aapki Marzi’ is another prime time outing that highlights society’s obsession with shadi, susraal and its consequences.
The drama serial falls into the category of regular drama viewing. Viewers have come across such narratives a zillion times. One thing that makes ‘Jaisay Aapki Marzi’ watchable is the trio of Mikaal Zulfiqar, Dur-e-Fishan Saleem and Kiran Malik. Before we discuss in detail, let’s have an inkling about the premise first.
‘Jaisay Aapki Marzi’: The Story So Far
Alizeh (Durre Fishan) is a smart, self-made and independent young woman who speaks about women empowerment at TED talk. She is the elder daughter of the family. She is friends with her younger sister and is also very possessive about her. Enter Sherry (Mikaal Zulfiqar) a red flag who, despite of having a charming personality, good education and a filthy rich status, is single at the age of thirty two. They meet through some common family friends and soon get engaged.
Sherry’s single sister Natasha (Kiran Malik) isn’t happy with his brother’s choice. She feels he deserves a much better match, at least someone from their class. She leaves no stone unturned to insult Alizeh and her family. Eventually the two get married and Sherry starts showing his true colors of how he wants to control and dominate his wife.
Effective Directions Elevate ‘Jaisay Aapki Marzi’
Saba Hameed’s last directorial ‘Ghalati’ was truly a big Ghalati (mistake) in her portfolio. This time despite of an ordinary script by Naila Jaffri, Saba keeps the proceedings very organic and interesting. The actors come across very natural as if they are just mouthing their lines and the scene gets okay. No over the top expressions, no overacting and most importantly she maintains a flow and doesn’t rush to reveal the story. Everything comes at the right time. Brownie points for casting, the actors fit in their roles well.
The Trio in ‘Jaisay Aapki Marzi’ Works Big Time
‘The Super Impressive’ Dur-e-Fishan Saleem: Just few years into the industry, the promising actor surprises with her choice of roles and first rate performance. She’s a natural actor, her dialogue delivery is effortless. One could feel the pain in her eyes when Sherry and Natasha humiliate her. We assume and hope that she won’t turn out to be a damsel in distress and will take a stand for the wrongdoings in the upcoming episodes.
‘The Reliable’ Mikaal Zulfiqar: With all his experience, there’s nothing challenging here for him. It’s a cake walk for the actor and he does complete justice to his role so far. His pairing with Durre and camaraderie with Kiran looks fresh. His pre and post marriage avatars define his supremacy over his craft.
‘The Surprise Package’ Kiran Malik: Where has she been? Kiran, who previously has been part of films like ‘Pinky Memsaab’ and ‘Zarrar’ has finally made her TV debut with this project and she is simply on fire. Right from her looks, her style statement, her dialogue delivery, she’s deliciously wicked as the dominating boss lady. She is caring yet deceitful at the same time. In fact, on many occasions she shines more than Dur-e-Fishan who plays the conventional part.
Summing It Up
It’s high time that the makers should move on from the shaadi and susraal narratives. Having said that, ‘Jaisay Aapki Marzi’ is a watchable outing, that mainly works due to sincere directions and bravura performances.
