Trailer (Review): Gritty And Power Packed, ‘Dhai Chaal’ Hints At Making Serious Cinema Enthralling

The trailer of the upcoming feature film ‘Dhai Chaal’ has been dropped and it is an intriguing watch. The film is based on the life of a convicted Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav and depicts the terrorist events that took place in Balochistan.

For the unversed, Kulbhushan Sudhir Jadhav is an Indian national who was arrested in the Pakistani province of Balochistan (2016) on charges of terrorism and spying for India’s intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing.

Based on true events, the trailer starts by recounting the series of events when Indian’s themselves planted terrorist attacks on their people and blamed Pakistan for it. The Parliament attack (2001), the Uri attack (2016) and the Pulwama attack (2019) are notable mentions.

We get to see a glimpse of Jadhav’s operations from planning to execution. He’s the master of disguise who preys across the province and creates chaos through subversive acts like kidnapping, suicidal attacks and bomb blasts. The simultaneous voice-over depicts how Jadhav expands terrorist camps in Pakistan and a solid plan should be plotted to halt this evil tsunami.

The trailer then shifts and brings to light the heroic acts of a Pakistani officer played by Humayuoun Ashraf. We get to see Ayesha Omar who plays Kanwal, a reporter interrogating the region. “Welcome To The Future of Akhand Bharat” Saleem Mairaj’s voice blooms from the background giving us Goosebumps. The film highlights the unheard stories, struggles and sacrifices of people in the province during the last two decades. It aims to clear the position of Pakistan to the world in a subtle way.

Shammon Abbasi plays the titular role and seems to be in full form. Directed by Taimoor Sherazi, the dark visuals, action, and hard-hitting dialogues build up excitement. The cinematography looks extraordinary. ‘Dhai Chaal’ trailer rakes up expectations and the film is set to release in cinemas on December 8, 2023.
