Saim Sadiq’s “Joyland” to become first ever Pakistani film to get a theatrical release in Japan on Friday, 18th October 2024. The film will be released in cinemas across Japan by Cetera International, a movie distribution company in Japan.
The Box Office So Far!
Film has globally earned around 1.4 Million USD, as per rough estimates. The highest share of business came from France where the film was released on a hundred screens and it managed to mint over a million dollars. United States has been the second largest contributor to the business with a collection of 277k USD approximately over the period of ten weeks. Film also made £61,461 from UK over the opening weekend and 28,973 USD from Spain over the two weeks.
The Critical Acclaim & Global Recognition
“Joyland” remains one of the most celebrated Pakistani film internationally. It had its world premiere at Festival De Cannes in 2022 where it received standing ovation and won “Jury Prize”in Un Certain Regard section and “Queer Palm Prize”. It remains the first and only Pakistani feature film to get shortlisted for Academy Awards’ “Best Foreign Language Film” category.
At our first edition of Pakistani Cinema Awards, “Joyland” won in three categories: “Best Actor in Lead Role”(Ali Junejo), “Best Debut Actor” (Raasti Farooq) and “Best Debut Director” (Saim Sadiq).
