Powered By Superlative Performances, ‘Bismil’ Offered Dollops Of Entertainment!

ARY Digital’s ‘Bismil’ has ended its run after 37 episodes. After the lukewarm response to his last outing ‘Sukoon’, director Aehsun Talish returned to form with ‘Bismil’. Based on polygamy, a theme we have witnessed many times on prime time, what made the enterprise refreshing was the unique storytelling by (Zanjabeel Asim Shah) and the emotional depth. Starring powerhouse actors Noumaan Ijaz, Savera Nadeem, and Hareem Farooq in title roles, the finale of ‘Bismil’ was heart-wrenching. Let’s review.

A Quick Recap

‘Bismil’ was the story of Masooma (Hareem Farooq) an ambitious woman who can go to any length to change her status quo. Zohaib (Asad Siddique) deeply in love with her, proposes marriage, but she dismisses him outright due to his middle-class background. Moosa (Saad Qureshi) is the only son of business tycoon Touqeer (Noumaan Ijaz) and his wife Reham (Savera Nadeem), returns to Pakistan after completing his studies. The story takes a dramatic turn when Moosa gets involved in  an accident that severely injures Masooma’s father (Behroz Sabzwari). Feeling responsible, Touqeer generously compensates for the medical expenses. Seizing this opportunity, Masooma maneuvers her way into Touqeer’s office by securing a job.

With calculated moves, she sets a honey trap, ultimately marrying him and disrupting his family. As the truth unravels, Touqeer’s family is left shattered, struggling to cope with the societal backlash. Under her influence, Touqeer drastically cuts off Moosa’s luxurious lifestyle and even refuses to attend his wedding. Unable to bear the humiliation of his father, Moosa takes his own life. Amid the chaos, Masooma announces her pregnancy. However, Touqeer, with the help of Zohaib, plans to expose Masooma and reclaim his wealth. The story culminates in Masooma being divorced and losing custody of her child. Meanwhile, Reham, unable to endure the betrayal, files for Khula and walks away from her tumultuous marriage with Touqeer.

The Winning Features

Zanjabeel Asim’s story was simple, relatable, and straight out of life. At the same time, the scenes were peppered with dramatic and tense moments. Aehsun’s direction came across as commercial and he did justice to the plot at hand. The father-son bond shared by Mossa and Touqeer was adorable while Touqeer’s track with Masooma had its moments. The best is reserved for the mass elevation scenes like the second marriage revelation, Moosa’s death sequence, and the finale sequence when Masooma gets the taste of her own medicine. ‘Bismil’ goes on another level post-Moosa’s demise, Touqeer’s strategic planning to give Masooma a lesson was well thought of and very satisfying to watch. If the drama had been shortened to a few episodes, its impact would have been greater.

Remarkable Performances

Hareem Farooq is the soul of ‘Bismil’, a flawless performance and her best till date. There are moments when she rises above the script. She is commendable from start to finish. It isn’t easy to play such a part and she makes it look effortless. Noumaan Ijaz, as always, puts in a sincere effort and plays his part with aplomb. Savera Nadeem with all her experience delivers a power-packed performance. She makes Reham a loveable character. Saad Qureshi is sure to be greeted with plum offers after ‘Bismil’. He lends support and gives a natural performance. Asad Siddique puts up a decent act.

Summing It Up

Riding high on superlative performances, ‘Bismil’ was a rollercoaster of ambition, betrayal, and redemption, leaving viewers questioning the limits people will go to achieve power and status. Good to see Aehsun Talish returning to form, looking forward to seeing more mass entertainers in the future ahead.
