‘Deemak’ Makes History at the Pakistani Box Office, Breaking Ground for Horror Genre with 8.3 Crore in 9 Days

Rafay Rashdi’s horror film ‘Deemak’ is earning both critical acclaim and commercial success, marking a historic moment for the horror genre in Pakistan. The film grossed an impressive PKR 5.58 crore in its opening week (first six days) and maintained a strong hold through its second weekend, adding another PKR 2.75 crore . Its total nine-day collection now stands at PKR 8.33 crore.

Most of the box office revenue has come from major urban centers such as Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi/Islamabad, with Lahore leading the way by contributing PKR 3.2 crore. Among individual cinemas, Karachi’s Nueplex Cinema (Askari IV) emerged as the top performer, generating PKR 1.17 crore, followed by Lahore’s CUE Cinemas with PKR 89 Lacs.

While the film’s success in metropolitan cities was anticipated, the notable turnout in cities like Multan and Hyderabad has been particularly surprising and encouraging for a local horror film. Multan’s Universal Cinema and Hyderabad’s Cinepax Cinema (Boulevard Mall) contributed PKR 33 Lacs and PKR 30 Lacs, respectively.

‘Deemak’ is expected to cross the PKR 10 crore mark before its third weekend, a significant milestone for a Pakistani horror film. Its success not only is a positive sign for the growth of local film industry but can also open doors for more exploration into unconventional genres.
