Hania Amir, Diljit Dosanjh, and Neeru Bajwa starrer ‘Sardaar Ji 3’ made history in Pakistan on its release day. Released on June 27, the film raked in PKR 3.5 crore ($125,000) on its opening day, marking the biggest first-day gross for any Indian film in Pakistan, reported by Pinkvilla.
Without adjusting for inflation, ‘Sardaar Ji 3’ surpassed the first-day records of Salman Khan’s ‘Sultan’ (PKR 3.42 crore) and Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Sanju’ (PKR 3.2 crore), two films that previously held records in Pakistan.
On its opening day, ‘Sardaar Ji 3’ grossed over $500,000 (PKR 14 crore +) from overseas markets, with Pakistan contributing around 25% of the total overseas gross.
The film’s unprecedented success in Pakistan, despite being a Punjabi film, can be attributed to the massive fan following of Hania Amir and Diljit Dosanjh. Additionally, the controversy surrounding the film’s non-release in India and the strong boycott by Indian film associations against Diljit Dosanjh have kept the film in the headlines, generating significant buzz among Pakistani cinegoers.
Despite releasing in Islamic month of Muharram, a period usually considered dull for cinema business in Pakistan, ‘Sardaar Ji 3’ has managed to bring in outstanding footfalls. To meet the high demand for the film, many multiplexes in Punjab have increased the number of shows, and the film is expected to shatter more box office records in the coming days.
