Writer and producer of last year’s release “Maan Jao Na”, Asma Nabeel, has announced her next feature film “Fly” under her production company, Crew Motion Pictures. Asma has various TV scripts to her name, including “Khuda Mera Bhi Hai”, “Khaani” and “Dil Kiya Karay”. The writer who is known for writing on social issues, announced the project during Breast Cancer Awareness week. She credits her own battle with Breast Cancer as inspiration for the film’s plot.
In a recent facebook post, Asma highlighted her battle with Breast Cancer as being instrumental in conceiving of the script as a way to do her part. While films centered on affliction-ridden protagonists have been made before in Pakistan, this is perhaps the first time Breast Cancer has been targeted pointedly. If Asma Nabeel is to be believed, she will highlight the struggles women have to go through when diagnosed with the disease. Since she has battled with the affliction herself, it may be optimistic to hope for a fully-fleshed out examination of that struggle.
According to Asma, film is also going to be a love story that will ‘melt hearts’ and ‘break taboos’. Through this combination of love and breaking taboos, perhaps it’s possible that “Fly” will make big bucks while genuinely addressing a pressing social issue.
Film’s cast and director are yet to be locked and will be announced in the coming months. “Fly” is expected to go on floors early next year and Asma plans to release it in October 2020.
