November is upon us which means the end of year releases are gearing up. While there’s just a single new release this weekend, there are plenty of holdover releases you can watch.

“Terminator: Dark Fate” is this week’s only new release and is going to be a treat for the old school Terminator fans. It stars Linda Hamilton from the original two Terminator films and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The sixth installment in the franchise retcons all the movies after T2: Judgment Day and proceeds from then on. The film also stars Mackenzie Davis as a new type of Terminator. The new plot centers on a new savior of the human race who is to be born. The task is to keep his pregnant mother safe. This one should keep old fans and new ones alike glued to the screens. Film is releasing this Friday on Nov 1 in Pakistan by Footprint Entertainment with ARY and HBO Pakistan as media partners.
Local Holdovers
Khalil Ur Rehman Qamar’s“Kaaf Kangana”, one of the most awaited films of the year, enters its second week. Concerning the Kashmir issue and a cross border romance, Khalil Ur Rehman Qamar’s Kaaf Kangana stars Sami Khan, Esha Fayyaz, and Ayesha Omar, along with Sajid Hassan and others. Fans of Khalil Ur Rehman Qamar’s writing will find this a treat to watch.
Shamoon Abbasi’s directorial debut on cannibalism in Pakistan, “Durj”, is still running in theaters. If you want grit, great storytelling and compelling characters, go watch this. It’s chock full of treats never before seen in Pakistani cinema.
Hollywood Holdovers
Disney’s live action remakes have been delivering massive returns at the box office.“Maleficent: Mistress of Evil”,however, is more than a reimagining as it’s an entirely different take on Maleficent, the villain from Sleeping Beauty. Starring Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning, as well as Michelle Pfeiffer, Mistress of Evil follows the iconic villain’s descent into madness. Film enters third week of run this Friday and Disney fans shouldn’t miss this one if they haven’t watched it already.
“Joker”: is still going strong and enters fifth week in Pakistan this Friday. If you want to see a DC villain given the serious film treatment he deserves don’t miss out on this one. Joaquin Phoenix’s performance is probably going to get an Oscar Nomination. Plus the film is much more than your typical comic book film. It’s more of a commentary on neglect of society’s most downtrodden residents. Joker is already the highest grossing R-rated film in history
