“The Legend of Maula Jatt’s” Trailer Promises a Roaring Epic

We’ve been waiting for the better part of a decade for “The Legend of Maula Jatt” and with the official trailer finally here, the excitement is reaching a fever pitch.

The trailer features sweeping shots of villages, havelis, and palaces as only Bilal Lashari could deliver along with strong dialogue that only Nasir Adeeb could deliver.

This is truly a marriage of a masterful director and a veteran writer who have understood the assignment. If any film can truly bring back the heydays of Pakistan’s cinema circuit, it’s “The Legend of Maula Jatt”.

Even the accents and dialects of the main leads, Fawad Khan and Hamza Ali Abbasi seem on point. While native Punjabi speakers will definitely spot inconsistencies, they’re at least not glaring.

What’s more gratifying to a fan of Pakistani cinema like myself is that the message of the film is on point. Maula Jatt is not a hero. Noori Natt is not a villain. They were never meant to be. They are instruments of revenge, seeking power and honour. In a fight like that, there are no winners. There is only loss.

In the beginning of the trailer, Maula’s mother wails that he came into this world not as a son, but as death for her entire village. Nasir Adeeb has maintained the original moral of Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi’s short story: revenge eats generations alive.

“The Legend of Maula Jatt” stars Fawad Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Mahira Khan, Humaima Malick, Gohar Rasheed, Shafqat Cheema, Nayyer Ejaz, Ali Azmat, Resham, and Babar Ali.

It hits theaters worldwide on October 13, 2022.
