We all knew “The Legend of Maula Jatt” was going to be a big film. Analysts said it could break the 100 Cr barrier, and that seems well within reach now.
The film has grossed 50.91 crore PKR (2.3 Million USD) at the global box office in its opening weekend. And more and more people are queuing up to watch. The best part about the total is that over 40 crore PKR have come in from international territories.
The breakdown as reported by distributors is:
Pakistan- $516,902
Middle East- $515,000
UK- $354,465
USA- $289,739
Canada- $235,172
Australia- $160,390
Other Territories- $250,000
Film has been trending at #1 on UAE box office chart but the biggest surprise is that North America as USA and Canada have contributed the lion’s share to the film at over $500,000.
Of course, the total may have crossed 60 crore PKR if not for the ongoing feud between the distributor and the exhibitors.
“The Legend of Maula Jatt” has grossed in a weekend what more than most Pakistani films do in their lifetime, but that was expected. What remains to be seen is by how much it will beat the 100 crore milestone.
Until then, one thing is for certain; “Swaad Aagya Sohneya!”
