UK Box Office: “The Legend of Maula Jatt” Dethrones “Punjab Nahi Jaungi”, Breaks Lifetime Records

“The Legend of Maula Jatt” has been minting money all over the world. The North America has been the best performing overseas market for the film where it has already surpassed the 1 million USD milestone. Next is Middle East where it is about to hit the 1 million USD ceiling. The third major contributor from overseas is the UK where the film has shattered the five-year-old record of “Punjab Nahi Jaungi” to become the highest grossing Pakistani film ever in UK.

The film had a phenomenal first week at UK box office with £543,000, surpassing the lifetime business of all major Pakistani films ever released in UK except “Punjab Nahi Jaungi” (£602,000) and “Bin Roye” (£545,000). It then went on to show an equally amazing hold during second week by raking in £203,906. The film’s second weekend gross is bigger than the lifetime gross of many major titles like “Jawani Phir Nahi Aani” (£ 171k), “Teefa in Trouble” (£ 161k), “Superstar” (£ 165k) and “Parey Hut Love” (£ 145k).

The Fawad Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Mahira Khan, and Humaima Malick starrer has grossed £756,094 (18.7 crore PKR) till Sunday with a sale of approximately seventy thousand (69,610 precisely) tickets all across the UK in 11 days. The film has already achieved the title of highest grossing Pakistani film in the UK on its second weekend.

On Monday, the Bilal Lashari directed raked in approximately £34k taking its 12 day gross to £790,094 (19.5 crore PKR). Film has now also become the highest grossing Punjabi language film surpassing the lifetime business of biggest Punjabi hits from India, such as “Chaar Sahibzaade” (£767k), “Chal Mera Putt 2” (£625k) and “Honsla Rakh” (£458k).

The action-drama flick is steady at UK box office but will it be able to hit 1 million GBP or 1 Million USD milestone during its lifetime? A lot will be decided on the film’s performance over the coming weekdays and then on the third weekend.
