BOX OFFICE: “TLOMJ” Gives Tough Time to New Bollywood Diwali Releases in Overseas

Eid, Diwali, Christmas, Independence day and Republic day are one of the most sought after slots for distributers in India to release the biggest films from Bollywood on these national holidays to cash on the extended weekends. This year too saw the release of two major Bollywood films on Diwali on Tuesday, that includes Akshay Kumar starrer “Ram Seetu” and Ajay Devgan and Sidharth Malhotra starrer “Thank God”.

While the two major titles from Bollywood opened to a decent start in India, both films suffered in the overseas markets where Fawad Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Mahira Khan and Humaima Malick starrer “The Legend of Maula Jatt” is showing no signs to slow down and is now giving tough time to the new cinema arrivals from India even on its second week.

According to India’s leading cinema trade analyst and film critic, Komal Nahta, TLOMJ’s day 13 gross is better than combined day 1 gross of both “Ram Setu” and “Thank God” on Tuesday, particularly in markets like UK and Canada. In UK, “TLOMJ” collected £32,261 while “Ram Setu” and “Thank God” collected £11,794 and £11,884, respectfully. Similarly in Canada, “TLOMJ” grossed $31,183 while “Ram Setu” and “Thank God” grossed $12,714 and $14,444, respectively.

“The Legend of Maula Jatt” has grossed approximately 1.1 billion PKR (110 crore PKR) till Sunday and is steady at box office both, in Pakistan as well as in overseas.
