“The legend of Maula Jatt” has been shattering box office records for Pakistani films, in domestic market as well as in overseas. Film has already surpassed 1 million USD benchmark in North America and Middle East and now it has achieved a new milestone in United Kingdom.
Fawad Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Mahira Khan and Humaima Malick starrer has now become first Pakistani film and first Punjabi language (Ind/Pak) film to cross £1 million mark at UK box office. Film had a phenomenal first week of £543k in UK which was followed by a remarkable second week with £364k. It has shown an amazing hold again in third week as the collections of third weekend have been around £121k, taking the 18 days total of film to 1.08 Million Great Britain Pounds (26.1 crore PKR).
Film has not only made new grounds for Pakistani and Punjabi cinema but has also challenged the box office records of some of biggest South Asian films. It has surpassed the lifetime business of Amir Khan starrer “Laal Singh Chadha” (£866k) and South Indian blockbuster “RRR” (£975k) and now currently stands as fourth highest grossing South Asian film in UK only after “Ponniyin Selvan 1”(£1.34 Million), “KGF- Chapter 2” (£1.1 Million) and “Brahmastra: Part 1- Shiva” (1.03 Million). Film will cross Ranbir Kapoor starrer “Bramastra: Part 1” this week and if the film maintains its hold over the box office during fourth week, it might even cross the lifetime business of “KGF- Chapter 2”. But will it be able to surpass “PS-1” lifetime to become the highest grossing South Asian film of the year in UK?, alot will depend on its performance in coming weeks.
