HUM TV’s latest endeavor ‘Hum Dono’ premiered on Tuesday. It gives viewers a fresh trio of Azaan Sami Khan, Kinza Hashmi and Zaviyaar Nuaman Ejaz. Directed by Aabis Raza and written by BeeGul, the initial promos gave us a clear understanding of the narrative based on rich and poor. So what ‘Hum Dono’ has in the offering. Let’s review.
A Dramatic Start
Wafa (Kinza Hashmi) is head over heels in love with Asad (Azaan Sami Khan). She enters his home through the back door at midnight forcing him to run away. Asad rubbishes this idea and wants to convince his super-rich father Eijaz Durrani (Nauman Ijaz) based on his merit and qualification. The class difference between the two is the biggest hurdle in their love story. But there’s a twist. Wafa’s father wants her to marry the man of his choice i.e. Sharoz (Zaviyar Nauman Ijaz).
Engaging Screenplay by Bee Gul
The opening scene of ‘Hum Dono’ is interesting. Wafa’s innocence and her idea of running away without any plan come across as cute. The conversations between the protagonist, casual moments, cooking and eating together are delightful. The writing by Gul makes the enterprise super effective. The characters are well fleshed out, and every scene contributes in moving the story forward. There’s a balance between the intense and light moments. Despite the run of the mill plot, the proceedings are interesting.
Earnest Performances Are The Savior
Azaan Sami Khan looks confident, he opens up and handles his character with ease. Kinza is shining bright with every project. She excels in bringing the right kind of innocence required for this part. Noman Ejaz is natural when it comes to doing grey characters and this one is no different. Samar Abbas contributes to the humor quotient. Babar Ali is decent as Asad’s father. Zaviyar makes a last-minute entry but looks fierce in the teaser of the second episode.
Verdict so far
‘Hum Dono’ primarily is old wine with new packaging. It’s a simple tale told effectively. The earnest performances are the USP of ‘Hum Dono’. It would be interesting to see how things shape up in the upcoming episodes.
