July has proven to be a significant month for Pakistani movie theaters. Despite the slowdown of cinema business around Ashura in the Islamic month of Moharam, the last week of July witnessed people flocking towards cinemas for Pakistani anime movie “The Glassworker” and Hollywood summer blockbuster “Deadpool & Wolverine”. The Indian Punjabi film “Jatt & Juliet 3” also kept bringing in the footfall throughout the month.
Now as August begins, here we are listing down all the major films that are coming out in cinemas across Pakistan this month:

Leech
“Leech” promises to be a psychological thriller and showcases the fight between a police officer and a serial killer. The trailer features a lot of investigative footage as well as dialogue about what the serial killer’s motives are. The film stars Naveed Raza, Mahsam Raza, Rashid Farooqi, and Kinza Malik.
“Leech” hits theaters on August 9th.
Sanak
Starring Shyraa Roy, Muneeb Ali, and Zubair Shariq, “Sanak” is a film about a disturbed individual who stalks a famous actress played by Shyraa Roy. The film features locations in the north of Pakistan and is a musical thriller.
“Sanak” hits theaters on August 16th.
Mastani
“Mastani” is a good old fashioned romantic comedy starring Amna Ilyas and Affan Waheed. The film has been described as “a rollercoaster ride of love, emotions, some fun moments and heartbreaking mystery!”

Indian Punjabi Releases
A couple of Indian Punjabi films are on the list for August release.
Daaru Na Peenda Hove
Releasing on August 9th, “Daaru Na Peenda Hove” is about a drunkard played by Amrinder Gill who moves across the house from that of Zafri Khan’s. The drunkard’s bachelor lifestyle is disrupted when he’s thrust into the role of a caregiver for a young girl.
“Daaru Na Peenda Hove” hits theaters on August 9th.
Rose Rosy Te Gulaab
This Punjabi film is a pure romantic film. A man, discontented with his single life, embarks on a manifestation journey advised by friends, finding himself torn between two women. His choice will determine his romantic future.

New Foreign Releases
Trap
1 Night Shyamalan’s latest offering is probably his most different film yet. It centers on a father and daughter attending a concert that has been held to catch a serial killer. The trailer soon reveals that the serial killer is the father himself, and now a cat and mouse game is on to avoid the police.
“Trap” stars Josh Hartnett and releases on August 2nd.
BlackPink World Tour: Born Pink
This is a documentary covering the successful Born Pink tour of the K-Pop supergroup BlackPink. K-Pop fans will probably love this experience.
It hits theaters on August 2nd.
Jagad Alam Gaib: Sinden Gaib
Another Indonesian horror film is coming out in Pakistan. “Jagad Alam Gaib: Sinden Gaib”, also known as “Mystic Singer” in English, is a film about the spirit of a dead singer that haunts a young woman in the present day.
This film is based on a legend from the region of Trenggalek in Indonesia. If your appetite for Indonesian horror was whetted with “Pemandi Jenazah” or “Sijjin”, then this may be the film for you.
Sinden Gaib comes out on August 2nd.
Project: Silence
Also known as “Escape: Project Silence”, this South Korean film was screened at the midnight section during the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
This survival horror film is about an accident on a foggy bridge. The bridge is on the verge of collapse and the families stranded on it are all trying to stay alive. In the midst of all this, they encounter the subjects of military experiments from a project called Silence.
Watch it if you’re into disaster or survival flicks. “Project Silence” hits theaters on August 2nd.
Borderlands
“Borderlands” is the latest videogame to film adaptation that Hollywood is offering up. After the success of Super Mario Brothers and most recently, the critical acclaim received by the Amazon Prime “Fallout” web series, it seems like Hollywood is pivoting from Superhero flicks to video game adaptations.
“Borderlands” has a huge star cast including Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black, Cate Blanchett, and Kevin Hart.
It hits theaters on August 9th.
Alien: Romulus
“Alien: Romulus” is the latest sequel in the Alien franchise. The film is about space farers dealing with the Xenomorph infestation on a wrecked space ship. This film is going back to the roots of the franchise and stars a very young cast including Isabela Merced, Cailee Spaeny, Aileen Wu, and David Jonsson.
The film hits theaters on August 16th.
The Crow
The remake of the cult classic action thriller from 1994 stars Bill Skarsgard as the titular anti hero and FKA Twigs as his love interest. The film largely rehashes the plot of the 1994 cult classic starring Brandon Lee who was tragically killed during the production due to a mishap.
The film releases in Pakistan on August 23rd.
