‘Aag Lagay Basti Mein’ Trailer Review: Chaos Reigns Supreme

The official trailer for “Aag Lagay Basti Mein” was released yesterday and it delivered on the promise of action, chaos and just good old fun.

Fahad Mustafa and Mahira Khan star as a married couple that live in poverty. Tired of struggling to save up for a trip to “Doobai”, the two hatch a plan to commit a robbery. Along for the ride are Tabish Hashmi as a ruthless gangster, Javed Sheikh as a deranged old man, comedian Ali Abdullah and the viral “Shehzaadi Samra”.

The trailer is reminiscent of the chaos and breakneck pace of the first “Na Maloom Afraad”, and that’s probably by design. The crime and chaos of the streets of Karachi is what brought audiences rushing to the cinemas more than 10 years ago, and it looks like the formula is still working today.

The film is directed by Bilal Atif Khan who worked as an Assistant Director with Nabeel Qureshi (the director of “Na Maloom Afraad”). Judging from what we’ve seen so far, it seems like the student is going to continue in his mentor’s footsteps and give us a lot more of that metropolitan madness.

However, aside from the action and the eye popping visuals, what drew our attention most were Tabish Hashmi and Mahira Khan. Tabish Hashmi looks malicious and unforgiving in his debut role; completely opposed to his charming demeanour on television.

Similarly surprising is Mahira Khan’s character. In this film she’s clearly playing against type and embodying a boisterous, rebellious character. It’s a far cry from the effervescent, charming, and gentle characters she’s has been playing. We look forward to the fireworks in the theater.

“Aag Lagay Basti Mein” was already the box office frontrunner among the Eid Ul Fitr releases and the trailer just cemented that lead.

The film hits theaters on the first day of “Choti Eid” 2026.
