“Another Cameo that I’m Very Proud of”: Mehwish Hayat on ‘Gangster Guriya’

While Mehwish might not be having a movie in her plate right now, she’s been in headlines for one reason or another these previous months.
Firstly winning Prestigious Presidential award ‘Tamgha-e-Imtiaz’ which stirred the debate of whether she deserved it or not. And when people somehow got over with it we were here for the next wrangle when ‘Gangster Guriya’ her latest dance number from from Meera Ji and Amna Ilyas starrer ”Baaji” released.

While Mehwish’s dance moves and energy in the song catches your eyes instantaneously, what some people are finding difficult to digest is Mehwish’s revealing wardrobe in the song. What makes them more agitated is the burden of responsibility they feel Mehwish had after winning Presidential award. Not just this, many have been comparing her wardrobe and styling to that of Katrina Kaif which she did for a song ‘Ishq Parcham’.

Social media is thus a blaze slut shaming her, asking to revoke the award even. One YouTuber even started a campaign asking his followers to dislike the song on YouTube.

All of this led Osman Khalid Butt, the lead actor of “Baaji”, who is also the choreographer and creative director of the song, to come to rescue his fellow artist when things got out of hands and some unacceptable terms poured in for her on Twitter. Osman in his tweet asked people to be civil while criticizing.

Finally we got a word from Mehwish herself who tweeted the song’s video and sounded confident and vocal. ”A woman in control of herself and knows what she wants. You can’t play me boy nahi hun mein khilona.”, referring to the haters maybe!

Despite all the moral brigade, we at Pakistani Cinema believe that their are always limits and certain ways of criticism. But unfortunately with all the social media on rush, people are becoming more and more negligent regarding the terms they use in public.
