Bilal Ashraf has had a varied career in Pakistani cinema. From the time that he appeared in a minor role in “Operation 021”, to his latest role as the main lead in “Superstar”, he has grown leaps and bounds in the last 5 years.
“Superstar”, according to him, is about falling in love. He also says that the film carries a message of ending the fighting and the constant negativity around us. The dialogue, “Agar larna hi hai, tou saath mil kar mohabbat ke liye larte hain”, is the core of Superstar.
His own career trajectory has been focused on stories revolving around love. “Janaan” centered on love and protection of children, “Rangreza” centered on love of music, and “Yalghaar” was about love for the homeland. He regards each of those projects fondly, no matter their success or failure. He speaks highly of his role in “Yalghaar”, saying that he still gets goosebumps thinking about it. He also associates fond memories with “Rangreza”, being a pet project of his dear friend Gohar Rasheed.
“Superstar”, he opines, is different. According to him, “It’s a complete package”. On being asked about his experience of working with a biggest star like Mahira Khan, Bilal was all praises for his co-star. He says working with her has made him appreciate the work ethic and effort she puts into her role and that there were no tantrums by her on sets and she is very easy to worth with.
Although the last two films of Bilal didn’t do well at box office, this time he’s very confident and happy with every aspect of the film, including the “shirtless song” ‘Dharak Bharak’, which he says brings a new dimension to his character. His hopes are pretty high, and he believes that the Pakistani audience hasn’t seen anything like this before.
