Celebs March in Mahira’s Support Against Firdous Jamal’s Ageist Comments

Veteran actor Firdous Jamal recently stirred controversy when he passed the inappropriate remarks regarding Mahira Khan on Faysal Qureshi’s morning show. In a segment from the program, when another actor was shown picture of Mahira Khan and was asked to comment about her to which the veteran jumped in to share his (unasked) opinion. Firdous said that “Mahira is not a film stuff. She is just a mediocre sort of a model and not an actor or heroine. She is over aged and should rather fit for the role of mother”.

This off course didn’t go well with Mahira’s fans and colleagues from the industry who have condemned the actor’s ageist remarks and lauded Mahira for her hard work and commitment for the profession.

Faysal himself came up with a defensive statement for Mahira on Twitter later saying that, “I as a responsible host will address this on the same platform in the coming week also. As a host I am and was shocked at our veteran actor Firdous Jamal’s comments on the live show for Mahira Khan who is undoubtedly an icon of our industry and for our country”.

That’s not all, entertainment industry’s prominent names also came up and stood together in support of Mahira through their social media handles. Let’s have a look at some of their tweets.

We at Pakistani Cinema condemn Firdous Jamal’s sexist remarks and believe that ageism and sexism is not a thing in this century. And wish Mahira Khan to shine on and keep making us proud globally.
