BOX OFFICE: Hollywood Flicks Keep Momentum; Local Releases Stumble in the First Weekend of November

The first weekend of November brought in only a single new release, “Terminator: Dark Fate”. “Kaaf Kangan”a and “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” both suffered falling numbers, but still drew in audiences. “Durj”, unfortunately, didn’t keep momentum at all and crashed during its second weekend.

Terminator: Dark Fate

The only fresh release on 1st November raked in 1.73 Cr during the weekend. The sixth installment in the franchise brought back Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor and Arnold Schwarzenegger as a Terminator. The emphasis on action and the nostalgia of the Terminator franchise played a huge part in the film’s initial success. The success of the film will likely carry over to the next weekend.

Kaaf Kangana

Sami Khan starrer “Kaaf Kangana” took in just 21 Lacs in its second weekend. That’s a far cry from the 86 Lacs that it took in during the first weekend. Bad press surrounding the film’s trailers and certain misogynistic comments made by Khalil Ur Rehman Qamar have done it no favours. The film’s 10 days gross stands at 1.07Cr and it will more than likely fizzle out by the next weekend.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil

The Angelina Jolie starrer suffered a heavy fall this weekend as well, nevertheless it still managed to perform better than two local films. It brought in 30 Lacs, bringing its Pakistani total to 2.7 Cr. The emphasis on fantasy and action, as well as a reimagining of the Disney villain probably brought a lot of kids to the theater. The film will also likely fizzle out by the next weekend.

Durj

The controversial subject matter and the censor controversy around “Durj” didn’t help keep its hold on audiences. While it made 50 Lacs in its opening week, it could only bring in 5 Lacs over its second weekend. “Durj” will probably be breathing its last on the big screen within the next few days.
