Box Office: ‘Umro Ayyar’ Becomes Second Highest Grossing Film of Year in Pakistan

Azfar Jafri’s ‘Umro Ayyar: A New Beginning’ emerged winner among the Eid releases of Eid-ul-Azha 2024. But is the film the film really a box office success? Let’s find out:

Highest Grossing Pakistani Film of The Year

‘Umro Ayyar: A New Beginning’ has surpassed the lifetime business of Wajahat Rauf’s romantic comedy ‘Daghabaaz Dil’ and is now the highest grossing Pakistani film of the year, as of yet. According to box office trade analyst Ali Zain, the film has raked in 13.4 crore PKR from Pakistan since its release.

The overseas market has contributed around $160k (4.5 crores PKR) on rough estimates. This makes the worldwide gross of the film around 18 crore PKR.

Second Highest Grossing Film of the Year Overall

Although ‘Umro Ayyar: A New Beginning’ has become the highest grossing Pakistani film of the year, the Diljit Dosanjh starrer ‘Jatt & Juliet 3’ still holds the title of highest grossing film of the year in Pakistan with a gross collection of more than 16 crore PKR. This makes ‘Umro Ayyar’ the second highest grosser of the year, overall.

Is ‘Umro Ayyar’ The Biggest Hit of the Year?

The answer is NO. The Usman Mukhtar and Sanam Saeed starrer might stands as the highest grosser Pakistani film of the year but it is still far away from being termed as a box office hit. With a budget that is claimed to be more than that of ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’, the film would need to collect atleast six times to its current gross to be declared a box office hit. And this seems like an extremely uphill task for ‘Umro Ayyar: A New Beginning’.
