2018 sure has made Pakistani Cinema take one step ahead of the revival phase .Along with block busters like JPNA2,Teefa in trouble and PHJ, we also got to enjoy critically acclaimed ,once in a while masterpiece “Cake”.
The film after winning many accolades around the globe has now been selected as Pakistan’s official entry for best foreign film category in the upcoming 91st Oscar awards.Starring Aaminah Sheikh and Sanam Saeed Cake is a layered story of a dysfunctional Pakistani family and explores various themes with such nuance and subtility that it got well received from global tabloids like the Guardian and Gulf news. The selection has been made by Pakistani Academy Selection Committee, chaired by Emmy and Academy Award winning film maker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will choose the final nominees for all award categories including ‘Best Foreign Language Film’ in January 2019. The complete and final list of Oscar nominees will be announced on January 22nd, 2019 with the presentation show for the 91st Academy Awards scheduled to take place on February 24th, 2019.
