Walt Disney’s “Frozen 2” released worldwide this Friday and just like the rest of the cinema markets, the animated feature, with its dazzling first weekend numbers, heated up the otherwise chilly season at box office in Pakistan. The film has shattered all-time box office records of Hollywood animated films in Pakistan. It has also surpassed the opening weekend numbers of local animated flicks, except “The Donkey King”.
The film opened in Pakistan on Friday with estimated 65 lacs and gained more momentum over Saturday and Sunday with 1 crore and 95 lacs, respectively. The animated feature has raked up 2.6 crore from Pakistani box office. Thus “Frozen 2” now stands at number one position, for opening weekend, among Hollywood animated features and stands second overall in Pakistan, with “The Donkey King” maintaining the top spot.
“Frozen 2” is a sequel to 2013’s blockbuster hit animated film “Frozen”. Here the lead characters Elsa (voiced by Idina Menzel) and Anna (voiced by Kristen Bell) go beyond the Kingdom of Arendelle to find out the mystery behind Elsa’s unusual powers that are only growing stronger with time. “Frozen 2” is now playing in theatres nationwide.
