Arabic Thriller “122” to Release in January in Pakistan

The first Arabic-language thriller from Egypt is set to release in Pakistan on January 18. The film, which stars Tarek Lotfi, Ahmed Daoud and Amina Khalil among others, is a psychological suspense thriller set in the urban environs of the North African nation.

122’s story revolves around an unfortunate trip a man with a drug-dealing past (Ahmed Daoud) takes with his girlfriend, which ends with the duo ending up locked in confinement in a hospital. Stuck in a terrifyingly desolate place in the middle of nowhere, the pair struggle to escape their dangerous surroundings alive. It is worth noting that 122 is the Egyptian equivalent for 911, the emergency number to call the police, thus the film’s title possibly has to do with the terrifying situation requiring emergency help the film’s lead pair find themselves in.

The trailer hints at a dark, edgy film with plenty of thrills and even a bit of gore. As the pair attempt to run, they encounter numerous violent attempts by doctors (Tarek Lotfy, being one of them) and security services to prevent them from doing so. As to what exactly is their motive is hard to say, although Egypt is one of the countries known to be a hotspot for organ trade, however whether or not this is part of the movie’s premise, you will have to watch to find out. The trailer is peppered with many well shot action sequences and car chases which add to its USPs.

You can be sure that 122 will deliver on high end suspense, slick cinematography and some good acting. The film releases on January 18 courtesy ABA associates in both the Urdu language as well as in Arabic with subtitles. It is produced by Saif Oraiby and directed by Yasir Al Yasiri.
