Review: ‘Zard Patton Ka Bunn’ Thrives On Sajal Aly’s Electrifying Performance

Over the years Sajal Aly has earned a reputation that a project starring her cannot be missed. Her supreme acting chops, versatility and great choice of scripts make her stand out amongst her contemporaries. The powerhouse actor pairs up with rising star Hamza Sohail for ‘Zard Patton Ka Bunn’. Written by Mustafa Afridi and directed by Safie Hassan, the project is produced by Kashf Foundation in collaboration with HUM TV. It also stars Rehan Sheikh, Samiya Mumtaz, Ali Tahir, Adnan Shah Tipu, Saad Azhar, Syed Tanveer Hussain, Chaudhary Muhammad Usman, Mubashir Mehmood, Adeel Afzal, Najma Bibi and Zaryab Haider, among others.

‘Zard Patton Ka Bunn’: The Plot

Set in a rural background we are introduced to Meenu (Sajal Aly) the only sister of four brothers who has secured the top position in matric exams. His patriarch brothers are extremely unhappy with Meenu’s achievement. In a rather conservative society, her father is her biggest support. Meenu is an advocate for women’s education and her character aims to challenge the status quo. In another track Dr. Nofil (Hamza Sohail) is a kind-hearted and able doctor; he’s in a relationship with her colleague Dr. Malaika (Noreen Gulwani). He goes all out to support a man whose wife dies due to maternal mortality. The senior doctor of the hospital is responsible for this negligence.

‘Zard Patton Ka Bunn’: What’s Different?

The drama serial blends well important issues like women’s education, and family planning along with entertainment. ‘Zard Patton Ka Bunn’ opens well and establishes the plot with multiple tracks. The writers infuse the story with impressive sequences that intact viewers’ interest. For instance, the entire cockfight sequence in the first episode with Maulvi Sahib’s (Adnan Shah Tipu) commentary on the loudspeaker. The conversation by a handful of men present at the family planning workshop. Sajal’s interesting conversations with her father.

What’s good is that ‘Zard Patton Ka Bunn’ never really gets preachy. The drama is infused with a substantial amount of humor throughout, making it appealing to a wide range of viewers. The dialogues are well-crafted and significantly enhance the entertainment value. Moreover, the seamless transition between comedic and serious tones is commendable.

Sajal Ali Dominates The Narrative

Sajal Ali as always delivers a top-notch performance. She is the perfect choice to play Meenu; her presence is electrifying. Her body language and childlike yet mature behavior is super effective. Hamza Sohail puts up a decent show. His character so far is a bit restrained but will surely get to see more of him in the upcoming episodes. Adnan Shah Tipu is excellent and puts up a great show. The actors who play Sajal’s father and brothers are effective.

Verdict So Far

‘Zard Patton Ka Bunn’ is a fresh combo of edutainment wrapped with entertainment. Sajal Aly’s electrifying presence is the highlight of the show so far. It would be interesting to see the camaraderie of the protagonists in the upcoming episodes.
