Review: ‘Nadaan’ Aptly Unveils The Dark Under World Of Drug Trade

The trend of mini-series on TV has gained significant momentum in recent years. The concise storytelling and lesser episodes, offers a complete wholesome experience without the long-term commitment of a regular drama. With ‘Gunah’, ‘Jurm’, ‘Razia’ and ‘Sar-e-Rah’ and “Mann Jogi” gaining good viewership, miniseries is the choice of the modern viewers. Director Mehreen Jabbar is back on TV with a hard-hitting mini-series ‘Nadaan’. Written by Saji Gul and produced by Sultana Siddique, ‘Nadaan’ highlights the darker side of drug trade.

‘Nadaan’: The Story So Far

‘Nadaan’ is set in ‘Jam Nagar’ wherein SHO Hussain (Ahmed Ali Akbar) is being posted to eliminate the rampant drug abuse in the area. The drug lord Pir Subhan supplies ice as medicine to cure his believers. He is ruthless and can demolish anyone who crosses his path. Tayyab (Kashif Hussain) is Subhan’s special man who takes charge of all the drug proceedings.

Dr. Tabeer (Ramsha Khan) along with his colleague Dr. Osama (Hammad Shoaib) have established a hospital in Jam Nagar. One of Tabeer’s patients is being treated by Pir Subhan and for obvious reasons, her health is deteriorating day by day. With a lab confirmation in hand, Tabeer files an official complaint FIR against Pir Subhan.

‘Nadaan’: A Massy Affair

‘Nadaan’ begins on a thrilling note. Ahmed Ali Akbar’s entry is noteworthy. Without diluting the impact writer Saji Gul comes straight to the point and exposes the drug abuse and its societal impacts. The characters are well introduced, thankfully each of them having a reason to be there. The unpredictable and fast-moving narrative coupled with raw and real execution keeps us hooked. The dialogues are massy and full of substance.

‘Nadaan’: Mehreen’s Magic Works Big Time

Mehreen Jabbar, the queen of authentic storytelling, delivers yet another hard-hitting enterprise that educates, stirs emotions, shocks, surprises, and of course entertains. Her handling of the subject is exemplary. One has to applaud Jabbar for leaving no loose ends. It’s a crisp watch with a fine balance between realism and entertainment.

‘Nadaan’: The Dependable Protagonists

Coming to the performances, Ahmed Ali Akbar delivers a terrific performance and secures full marks in a cop avatar. His presence is fiery and makes you root for him. Ramsha Khan is getting her due credit as she is now getting major projects with great directors. She is supremely confident as Dr. Tabeer and holds her ground well with her strong act. Hammad Shoaib does well. Kashif Hussain is menacing and delivers a top-notch performance.
