The trailer for the much anticipated ‘Inspector Jamshed’ film has finally been released. The trailer features high speed car chases, quick cut fight choreography and lots of thrills and chills. This scale of mayhem and action certainly hasn’t been attempted by a Pakistani film before.

Subtitled “The Secret Parchment”, the film is about the search for this secret scroll. The trailer shows the mysterious parchment, which resembles something from antiquity, as a nefarious secret; “a blueprint of destruction”. Apparently anyone who touches the parchment dies.
The trailer shows Inspector Jamshed and his family; especially his three children, trying to solve the mystery of the parchment and fending off enemy agents, thugs, and other mysterious forces.

It seems to have all the ingredients of a great spy thriller, and all the characters of the Inspector Jamshed series.
However, the choice to shoot the entire film in English, the foreign setting (which looks like the UAE or some other middle eastern country), and the clearly foreign inspirations for the filmmaking (like Mission Impossible, John Wick, or other action franchises) casts a non-Pakistani shadow over it all.

Inspector Jamshed is a distinctly Pakistani series, along with the Jaasoosi Duniya and Imran Series novels from Pakistan. The vernacular, history, and characters within those stories bear the stamp of Pakistani identity. The film, from the footage so far, does not. One can understand the idea of making the film palatable for the international audience, but what of its main audience in Pakistan?

That being said, this is a project worth looking out for. If they play their cards right, this may be another global blockbuster like ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’.
The film boasts a star cast with Omair Rana as the titular inspector (who looks like he jumped out of the covers of the Inspector Jamshed novels themselves), Ahad Raza Mir in an antagonistic role, and Asif Raza Mir and Faran Tahir in supporting roles.
There is no release date yet.
