‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ has paved ways for the revival of Punjabi cinema in Pakistan. A number of leading directors including Sarmad Khoosat, Nadeem Baig and Kashif Nisar are already working on Punjabi films. Another exciting addition to this list is ‘Seylam’, an upcoming Punjabi action film which is claimed to be the second most expensive film after ‘TLOMJ’.
‘Seylum’ is written and directed by Abu Aleeha, who has made his name with bold projects like ‘Javed Iqbal’ (later released under the title of ‘Kukri’) and this year’s ‘Taxali Gate’. This will be Aleeha’s third Punjabi film after ‘Super Punjabi’ (2023) and ‘Mango Jatt’ (slated for Eid-ul-Fitr 2025 release).
The action-packed project is bankrolled by Awais Raoof who has previously produced Shaan Shahid’s action-thriller ‘Zarrar’ (2022). This will be his second film under the label of his production company Jehan Films.
‘Seylum’ stars Muneeb Butt and Amna Ilyas in lead roles. Muneeb made his silver screen debut some nine years ago with a comedy film ‘Halla Gulla’ (2015) which failed at box office. This will be his comeback to big screen after a decade. Amna Ilyas, on other hand, has a number of critically acclaimed projects like ‘Zinda Bhaag’ (2015), ‘Baaji’ (2019) and ‘Ready Steady No’ (2019) to her credit.
‘Seylum’ is ready to go on floors on November 17. The film will be shot in one go at different locations across Lahore, Kallar Kahar, Nathiagali, Cholistan and Bahawalpur and the shoot is expected to be wrapped by the end of December.
