Pakistan’s First Sindhi Feature in 30 Years to Grace the Jaipur Film Festival

“Sindhu Ji Goonj” or “Indus Echoes” is Pakistan’s first Sindhi film in almost 3 decades. It will premiere at the Jaipur Film Festival in India on the 21st of January 2025.

The last Sindhi film to be released in theaters was the action film “Himmat” in 1997, directed by Samad Sheikh. “Sindhu Ji Goonj” will be the first feature to follow it in almost 28 years.

“Sindhu Ji Goonj” is an anthology, narrating five stories set around the Indus. Director Rahul Aijaz said that the Indus River was the inspiration for the film due to its symbolic and historic influence on Sindhi culture.

Three different film studios are involved in the film’s production including Film N’ Chips Media Productions, Shaam Films and Big Meta Films from South Korea. The film is a coproduction between Pakistan, South Korea and Bangladesh. Shamoon Abbasi himself is serving as an executive producer.
