‘Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri’ has been on the air for a while and continues to hold its audience’s attention with a consistent dramatic turn one after another. With no established star attraction, the drama serial is steadily gaining positive word of mouth. Coupled with some fine performances, a well-penned story by writer Rahat Jabeen, director Shahid Shafat takes the printed word and portrays it beautifully onscreen.
The Story So Far
Zobia (Dananeer Mobeen) and Saim (Khushhal Khan) are best friends and neighbors since their childhood. Being in their 20s, Zobia is a free-spirited soul who wants to live life on her terms. However, that isn’t the case, being the youngest in her family she is mostly pampered and has certain restrictions as well. Saim is a charming young lad who loves music and aspires to be a musician. The narrative takes a dramatic turn when a friend from their group tries to woo Zobia and Saim just cannot tolerate it.
Let’s look at some of the important aspects of ‘Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri’ that are keeping the viewers hooked.
Refreshing Teenage Romance
We don’t get to see stories based on teenage friendships and college romances. This is one of the major reasons why ‘Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri’ is a refreshing change for viewers. The plot is beautifully woven around teenage emotions, romance, misunderstandings and the innocence of teenage friendship. Another refreshing aspect is to witness the green and serene Islamabad being captured beautifully.
Khushhal and Dananeer’s Sparkling Chemistry
With just a couple of years and projects in the industry, Khan and Mobeen have shown immense growth as performers. But ‘Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri’ proves to be a game changer for both the actors. The drama serial heavily rests on Saim and Zobia’s shoulders and requires them to deliver their best. And they do! The adorable chemistry, the small moments of raw and tender love, the childlike behavior, and the concern they have for each other is surely not to be missed. We would be surprised if they won’t sweep the awards for the best Jodi in the upcoming award season.
Closer to Reality
As a story, ‘Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri’ has a mass appeal. Viewers can relate to the mindsets of families who don’t allow their daughters to go shopping alone or hang out with friends till late. Or the scene where Zobia’s mother slaps her when she receives a bouquet from an unknown friend. Also, the fact Gen Z isn’t able to digest that a boy and a girl can just be friends. It’s strange but true. The director beautifully captures the routine of everyday life. Like we visibly see Laila Zuberi’s character not faking food and actually enjoying pakoray, samosa and tea in the rain. The fight sequence from the first episode, or the traffic sergeant asking for Saim’s license. The way how Omair Rana’s character explains Saim to concentrate on his studies and then marry whoever he wants was an empowering scene. All these small peculiarities add up and give a lasting impact.
Sisterhood Alert
Writers over the years have targeted this relationship and shown up in a negative light. ‘Maat’ and ‘Jalan’ are supreme examples of sister rivalry. Another major highlight of ‘Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri’ is the bonding between Zobia and Rushna (Noreen Gulwani). It is a big sigh of relief to watch the latter being the former’s biggest strength and guiding her through thick and thin. In fact, Zobia is closer to her sister than her mother, she can be vulnerable and share anything she likes to.
The Minor Loopholes
Everything has its share of pros and cons and so does ‘Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri’. Some of the scenes completely didn’t make sense. What was the need of the fake fire sequence in Zobia’s room? Adding more to the horror was Zobia’s reaction, she was so horrified that she fell from her bed and didn’t ever bother to escape. Why? We wonder why Saim’s mother is so rude and negative towards Zobia? We do feel some star-plus vibes in her character. Without any valid reasoning, why all of a sudden Zobia’s brother Hassan has emerged as a villain in her life?
Phenomenal Supporting Performances
Besides Dananeer Mobeen and Khushhal Khan’s towering performances, the serial is backed up by strong supporting acts. It’s a delight to see Farah Hussain back on TV. She is natural, effortless and a delight to watch. Another surprise package of Noreen Gulwani, she is getting better and better with every project. Her sequences with Mobeen are intense and give us goosebumps. Laila Zuberi and Ali Tahir are super dependable. Omair Rana is apt for his part. Ayehsa Toor needs to focus on her script selection. We are done seeing her in a cunning avatar in almost every project.
Our Verdict So Far
Do yourself a favor and watch ‘Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri’ for its raw, real and fresh appeal, career-best performances from the lead pair and a plot that Gen-Z would be able to relate to. We hope that the true spirit and message of the drama wouldn’t be ruined by the unnecessary policies to fetch ratings. Highly recommended!
