3rd Red Sea Festival to Screen 4 Pakistani Films

The 3^rd Red Sea Film Festival Saudi Arabia is all set to take place from November 30^th– December 9^th in Jeddah. It will be screening 4 Pakistani films.

The festival, distributed into three categories namely Saudi Selection, Special Screenings and Competition Lineup will feature two Pakistani feature films “Wakhri” & “In Flames” competing each other in Competition Lineup category among several other films. 2 Pakistani short films “Solatia” and “Eid Mubarak”, will also be featured.

In Flames

Zarrar Kahn’s debut directorial horror film “In Flames” which is currently showing in select theatres in Karachi and Lahore is the story of a mother and daughter who have both lost their fathers and are trapped by patriarchal property laws. It’s also Pakistan’s official submission for the Academy Awards this year.

Wakhri (One of a Kind)

The second Pakistani film at the festival “Wakhri” helmed by Iram Parveen Bilal will have its world premiere at the festival. The film’s trailer was released a few days ago. It features a plot inspired by the life of controversial social media star “Qandeel Baloch. The film follows the story of a widow who becomes an overnight sensation when her forthright opinions go viral.

2 Pakistani Short Films Also Make It to Red Sea Festival

Two more Pakistani films have made it to the Red Sea Festival, in the short film category. They’re among 14 which have been selected from across the world.

Solatia

The first is “Solatia”. Starring actress and social media star Amtul Baweja, the film is about a displaced woman named “Zamda”, searching for her husband. According to the actress herself, the film is about finding hope in a unlikely place. Solatia also stars Samiya Mumtaz, Huss Khan, and is directed by Hira Sheraz Yousafzai.

Eid Mubarak

The second short film is “Eid Mubarak”, directed by Mahnoor Euceph. It’s about a privileged Pakistani girl who goes to the market to buy a goat for Eid Ul Azha. The girl grows quite fond of the goat and decides to save it before it is sacrificed on the occasion of Eid
