ARY Digital’s latest endeavor ‘Burns Road Kay Romeo Juliet’ is a story of two people from diverse backgrounds who embark on a journey of forbidden romance. The show marks the first collaboration of Hamza Sohail and Iqra Aziz is produced by Big Bang Entertainment. The initial promos and subsequent trailer promised to be a mass entertainer. So did ‘Burns Road Kay Romeo Juliet’ meet our expectations? Let’s review.
‘Burns Road Kay Romeo Juliet’: The Premise
The plot of ‘Burns Road Kay Romeo Juliet’ introduces us to Farhad (Hamza Sohail) the only BBA graduate of his family. He isn’t interested in joining his family business of catering. He shares a good rapport with his sister Kiran (Shaheera Jalil Al Basit). His father enacted by Shabbir Jaan wants him to join the family business but he has different plans.
Enter Freiha (Iqra Aziz) a young and charming girl with a heart of gold. Her family comprises of a bunch of people who indulge in typical family politics. She makes sure that all the arrangements at her cousin Zara’s (Hira Umer) wedding should be done on time. In order to achieve the above, she rides a bike with her dupatta (stole) flying all over, and collides with Farhad. The latter is rushed to the hospital where Farhad instantly falls for Freeha. The former becomes friends with her cousin Bilal (Sami Khan). As the story progresses, Freiha asks Farhad to arrange Zara’s dholki and romance starts brewing up.
Highpoints
Three episodes down the director Fajr Raza’s intention is clear as he establishes the enterprise as a hardcore mass entertainer. His directions are neat and simplistic. He captures the vibrant settings, the raw and real feel and the true essence of Burns Road to the fullest. The writing by Parsa Siddiqui is breezy and uncomplicated. She intelligently plugs in serious issues like dowry and divorce for the betterment of society. The dialogues are well worded and the humor connects well with viewers.
Star Performances
Iqra Aziz as Freiha not only acts well but also looks stunning. She doesn’t have a single false note in her act. The scene at the tailor shop is a sheer testimony of her craft. Also, her sartorial choices have shown remarkable improvement.
Hamza Sohail is getting better with each project, as Farhad he slips into his part well and delivers a fine performance. His comic timing is spot on and also shines in intense sequences. The supporting cast deserves a round of applause with Shabbir Jaan, ZQ, Khalid Anum being highly effective.
Multiple Bollywood Traces
One strange aspect of ‘Burns Road Kay Romeo Juliet’ is that the show reminds us of various Bollywood films. For instance, the introduction sequence of Farhad reminded us of Ranveer Singh in ‘Band Baaja Baarat’. The bubbliness of Freiha, how she fearlessly rides a bike and gets things done reminded us of Anushka Sharma in ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’. There’s another sequence where Farhad and Freiha’s father get into a quarrel and insult each other. The sequence resembled Bollywood’s ‘Hero No. 1’, wherein a similar situation was enacted by Kader Khan and Paresh Rawal.
Summing It Up
At the core, Iqra and Hamza shine in this Déjà vu romance. The treatment, settings, fresh on-screen pairing and interesting characters so far make up for an interesting watch.
