Right now, two films are ruling the Pakistani box office: “Deadpool and Wolverine” and “The Glassworker”. “Deadpool and Wolverine” is currently the #1 movie in the world and has grossed over PKR 7.75 Cr in its opening week from Pakistan. “The Glassworker”, fresh off its triumphant debut at the Annecy Animation Film Festival, has debuted to PKR 1.71 Cr in its opening week in Pakistani movie theaters.
Deadpool and Wolverine
The 3rd film in the Deadpool franchise, and the biggest superhero film in 2 years, is ruling the global box office. It has grossed over $824 million worldwide and is on track to gross $1 billion. That would make it the second highest grossing film of the year, and the second highest grossing R-rated flick behind “Joker” (2019).
With no signs of slowing down, the film has also managed to awaken the dead superhero genre in Pakistan. With fans flocking to theaters to watch Ryan Reynolds and their favourite Hugh Jackman in the iconic comic accurate Wolvy suit, there’s no doubt that the film will do gang busters at the Pakistani box office.
The Glassworker
Usman Riaz’s labour of love and Pakistan’s first hand drawn animated film has debuted to glowing acclaim. Audiences are sharing their love online constantly and the film is slowly, but steadily building pace. Grossing over 1.1 Cr in its opening weekend, the film has accumulated over 1.71 Cr in total over the first seven days.
With its story, animation, soundtrack, and voice acting all generating acclaim, The Glassworker’s run at the box office is just beginning.
