Saqib Malik’s film “Baaji” has been released in cinemas last Friday and despite the overwhelming craze for ICC world cup all around, film managed to launch at box office with good numbers. Film opened on Friday with 90 lacs and then went on to collect 95 lacs each, on Saturday and Sunday.
Film has received rave reviews from critics and a good word of mouth from cinegoers and all this is translating into good boxoffice as is evident from film’s weekday trending. The Meera Jee starrer minted 50 lacs on Monday and 44 lacs on Tuesday for a cumulative total of 3.74 crore.
Saturday: 95 lacs
Sunday: 95 lacs
Monday: 50 lacs
Tuesday: 44 lacs
Total: 3.75 crores
“Baaji” is second release of the year by ARY Films with “Sher Dil” as first and both the films have been a non festive release. While “Sher Dil” was a case winner for pulling in a good footfall during the dull box office phase, the lifetime business of “Baaji” also is very crucial for the trade as all the distributers and production studios have their eyes on the performance of “Baaji” so to decide the release dates of upcoming films. If “Baaji” maintains a good hold in following weeks, it might encourage the release of upcoming local films on regular Fridays instead of cluttering all the major films of this nascent industry on the Eids.
“Baaji” stars Meera, Amna Ilyas, Osman Khalid Butt, Ali Kazmi, Mohsin A bbas Haider, Nayer Ejaz and Nisho Begum.
